The Diagnostic

Find out what's actually blocking your surfing.

Send your footage. I watch it frame by frame, then we spend an hour together and you leave knowing the one thing to fix, why it's the one, and the order everything else comes in.

01Why this exists

More sessions won't change it. More information won't either.

You already know what a bottom turn looks like. You've watched the videos. What's missing is someone watching you and telling you which specific thing, in which specific moment, is holding the rest back.

Most progression blocks aren't technical. They're perceptual.

02How it works

Three steps. About a week, end to end.

Step 01

You send footage

Phone video is fine. A few waves, or a surfskate clip. Drop it in Drive, WeTransfer or Dropbox and paste the link, or send it straight to my WhatsApp. If you have none, I'll tell you exactly how to film it.

Step 02

I watch it properly

Frame by frame, before we speak. You're paying for the hour of analysis that happens before the call, not just the call.

Step 03

We spend an hour

45–60 minutes, one to one. You see what I see. Then it's written down so you still have it in a month.

What you walk away with

Credited in full against The Concrete Program booked within 15 days. If the diagnostic tells you that you need the program, you don't pay twice.

03Proof

The only honest before-and-after in surfing.

Every other comparison in surf coaching puts two different waves side by side, so you can't tell what changed. In a wave pool the wave is identical. Whatever is different is the surfer.

Same wave, twice

We met in Portugal and worked on surfskate together, then moved online to develop his surfing. Identical wave, identical section, one variable changed.

Before
After
What was blocking him
The timing and consistency of his pop-up. Everything downstream was waiting on a start that didn't arrive the same way twice.
What changed
He goes straight to the wall now, and sets his position for what comes next: pop-up into trim, bottom turn into top turn.

"His instructions were clear, he demonstrated and feedback was by video analysis. I went away with a lot to work on and exercises to help. Very precise and structured."

Jamie — UK

"I focused a lot on my initiation of bottom and top turns, timing and weight shifting. The biggest moment was when we practised linking the individual turns together smoothly."

Sarah, 43 — Austria

"Understood where my weight should be, when to compress and extend. Arm positioning. Now I feel better equipped for bowl training."

04Who's looking at it

Vasco Rodrigues.

Sport scientist and physiologist. Surf, surfskate and surf fitness coach. The only official Carver Skateboards coach in Europe and a Surfset Fitness Master Trainer. Five years coaching the competition squad at Surfing Clube de Portugal, the oldest surf club in the country, and the author of the Concrete Surfers Training Method.

I work with beginners and intermediates. That's where I'm good.

When I'll tell you no

If you're chasing high performance, there are specialists better suited to you and I'll say so rather than take the booking. Same if the footage shows the block is somewhere I can't help. You'd get a straight answer and your money back.

05Not ready to pay

Then send one wave instead.

One surf wave, from paddling to kick-out, uncut. I watch it frame by frame and write back within 48 hours with what's blocking it. Five places a month, because doing it properly takes the better part of an hour. It costs nothing because the clip may be shared as an example. No call, no pitch.

Get your Snapshot

Send your footage.

Fill this in and you'll hear back within 24 hours, 48 for a Snapshot because I watch the clip before replying. Paste a link to your video — there's nothing to upload here.

One wave, from paddling to kick-out, uncut. For a Diagnostic, at least five waves of the same manoeuvre. Don't trim to the good part.

Clips are too big to upload through a web form, so paste a link: Google Drive, WeTransfer, Dropbox, an unlisted YouTube video or an Instagram post.

Where and when, beach or water, and what you were going for. One line is enough.
